In the backdrop of overwhelming adoption of digital-led initiatives in such diverse and dynamic markets – where each country offers different opportunities and challenges, the need to understand how best to meet customers halfway and create value for the business remains the a pertinent question.
Historically, the focus has been product and service differentiation among most financial service institutions. However, internet penetration and high mobile phone usage rates have allowed banks to tap into the previously unbanked. We at The Digital Banker believe new customer segments, rapid digital transformation and widespread innovation can dramatically change the way banks operate in these markets.
With the MEA Retail Banking Innovation Awards 2021, the goal was to identify and benchmark financial institutions that are innovating products and services, reinventing customer journeys, and implementing technological advancements all with customer needs and satisfaction at the core of its strategy. The submissions revealed that in a short span of time, the mandate for financial institutions witnessed a rapid shift where it became imperative to understand, acknowledge and deliver exceptional customer service and experiences through innovative business models.
