Citi Global Wealth Management Appoints Ligang Liu as Asia Pacific Head of Economic Analysis

Citi today announced the appointment of Li-Gang Liu as Asia Pacific Head of Economic Analysis for Citi Global Wealth Management (CGWM). Continuing to be based in Hong Kong, he reports to Steven Wieting, Chief Investment Strategist and Chief Economist for CGWM, and Roger Bacon, Asia Pacific Head of CGWM APAC Ultra High Net Worth Business.

In his role, Liu will provide thought leadership and policy analysis of the region’s key economies, deepening CGWM’S analysis of China’s economy and future relations with the world. He will lead senior-level discussions with the region’s most sophisticated investors to assist them in making strategic investment decisions.

“We are pleased to welcome Li-Gang to the CGWM family and look forward to him providing clients with his unique insights into China and Asia’s economies,” said Wieting.

Prior to this role, Liu was Citi Research’s Chief Economist for China from 2016. He has more than two decades of professional experience working in both public and private financial institutions. He was ANZ Bank’s Chief Economist for Greater China for more than six years. Prior to ANZ, he held various senior research roles at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, and the World Bank and Peterson Institute for International Economics, both in Washington D.C.

“Li-Gang brings a wealth of experience to the role, along with a track record of providing key investment opportunities to clients in the region,” said Bacon.

Liu enrolled in the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing for two years before earning a scholarship to study in the United States. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
